HMP Commentary:

Nvidia has announced a new contract with another leading car manufacturer, Volkswagen, to expand its AI/Deep Learning technologies beyond autonomous vehicles. VW has also revealed that some of its models will be adapted with Public Wireless Local Area Network (pWLAN) by 2019; allowing its cars to communicate with each other and to exchange information related to traffic and routes. Nvidia is joining industry suppliers ZF and Hella to help incorporate its own in-car AI technology in a self-driving system targeting OEM clients. The BMW Group, Intel and Mobileye recently collaborated on a state-of-the art autonomous driving platform; they have now revealed that Delphi will be the development partner and system integrator for their platform. The Swedish car safety supplier Autoliv and Volvo just signed a deal using Nvidia’ s AI car computing platform as the foundation for their advanced software development to enhance software systems for self-driving cars.

LiDAR technology is becoming more and more pervasive in the marketplace; XenomatiX, a Belgian private company, has been working to develop a more affordable and more efficient technology and is now launching its own new product called XenoLidar. Drive.ai, an autonomous driving start-up that began testing its first vehicles on public roads, has raised $50M in new funding. Upstream Security, recently secured $2M seed round in an investment led by Glilot Capital Partners, for developing a cloud-based cyber-security platform for connected and autonomous vehicles.

The Silicon Valley-based education provider, zSpace has announced new additions to its career and technology education (CTE) applications for its platform, for automotive training courses to ensure that schools prepare students for jobs in these growing fields.  Toyota strongly believes that its new technology should stop cars from severe accidents, their new “Lexus LS” does not only recognizes other cars, but also cyclists, pedestrians and children.
